The Walker School is a nonsectarian, co-educational independent day school serving three-year olds through twelfth grade in Marietta, Georgia. Walker seeks an energetic and dedicated individual for a teaching position in German that will start in November of 2019. The ideal candidate has experience teaching across multiple levels and can deliver instruction featuring extensive input in a comprehensible manner while maintaining a low-anxiety environment. The Walker World Language curriculum is based on the ACTFL Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century and the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. By incorporating ACTFL's three modes of communication (interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational), the World Language Department enables students to advance along the continuum of proficiency. The teaching load is four sections plus grade-level advising, and total student contact in the four courses is 65 students. The four courses range from a 9-week 6th grade Introduction to German class up to an Upper School Honors German IV class.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Develop and prioritize short and long-term instructional objectives based on German curriculum.
Display strong pedagogical knowledge of level curriculum being taught.
Uses best practices in teaching and learning, focused on differentiated instruction, to design and deliver instruction
Presents well-planned lessons with appropriate work within and outside of the classroom.
Maintains accurate and comprehensive records of each student’s performance and progress
Maintains and directs the appropriate behavior of students
Develops strong student relations and nurtures the whole student by effectively communicating through active listening and appropriate responses
Demonstrates effective and timely verbal and written communication with parents pertaining to a student’s progress and needs as well as general information (through phone calls, emails, learning management system, conferences, and semester comments)
Maintains an organized, pleasant, and inviting environment that supports active learning
Collaborates with colleagues in lesson planning as well as school-wide goals
Utilize scientifically researched effective instructional strategies and methods of providing information for students to acquire the learning.
Participates actively in professional learning opportunities and demonstrates a growth, not fixed, mindset toward learning
Integrates technology into the curriculum in a meaningful way that is suitable to the age and needs of the students and subject matter being taught
Maintain professional responsibilities and act as a role model.
Demonstrate punctuality to class, to assigned duties, and to other school activities
Submit records, reports, and forms accurately and promptly
Provide clear plans for substitute teachers
Demonstrate a willingness to share ideas, methods, and materials.
Participates in associated duties such as carpool and chaperoning school events
Additional responsibilities as assigned
A Bachelor’s degree and classroom teaching experience is required. A Master’s degree or advanced course work is preferred
Salary is dependent on experience and degrees earned and is commensurate with other independent schools in the area.
