Teaches classes in coding to Middle and Upper School students following a progression already defined, in addition to overseeing student app designs in the 10th grade Capstone. May also serve as an academic advisor to a small group of students.
Teaches a wide range of abilities in X Code.
Plans, evaluates, and follows course content, and course materials as instructed by instructor of classes.
Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicates those objectives to students.
Encourages independence amongst students learning to code
Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
Initiates, facilitates, and moderates classroom activities.
Uses effective classroom management techniques to ensure effective learning.
Confers with department head, advisors and administrators in order to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems.
Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students.
Maintains regularly scheduled school hours in order to assist students.
Maintains contact with students with regular communication and regularly scheduled evaluations.
Provides weekly progress to the Director of Arts and New Media.
Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Patience and knowledge of how to foster creativity in coding.
Knowledge of XCode and experience building apps preferred.
Ability to troubleshoot XCode individually with students.
A clear interest in, knowledge of, and ability to work with Middle and Upper School students.
Self-confidence with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously under “deadline” situations.
Ability to apply common-sense understanding, and to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Ability to ascertain which people may need immediate assistance and to act accordingly.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.
