Poly Prep is accepting applications for a full-time, Grades 9 to 12 dance teacher, leave replacement for February-April, 2020.
The ideal candidate will have a BA and a Master’s degree in Dance or Dance Education, practical experience teaching a wide variety of dance, including a diverse range of world dance styles. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience teaching dance to teenagers, possess excellent choreography skills, and have experience setting performance-level choreography in mixed-level and mixed-gender classes. We seek candidates who are organized and able to collaborate with other members of the Performing Arts department and the Poly community at large.
Plan and execute lessons for four Grade 9 to 12 classes, one of which is an advanced-level course. Lessons include a warm-up that develops technical skills, and material and repertoire that develop student understanding of a variety of dance styles, choreographic tools, and performance techniques.
Choreograph and costume one performance piece per class, and clean existing dance pieces, for the Spring Dance Concert. Must be available for performances April 13 and 14, 2020.
Assist with the final month of the Upper School musical rehearsals: clean choreography, support student dancers and work with the director on staging. Must be available for performances February 28 and March 1, 2020.
Communicate with parents, students, and teachers about rehearsals and performance details.
Assist with planning for the annual Spring Dance Concert.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Dance or Dance Education. Master’s Degree or commensurate experience preferred.
Experience: At least three years of teaching or commensurate experience.
Specific Skills: Excellent choreography skills are a must. Please provide examples of your choreography when submitting materials to be considered for this position. Experience in a diverse range of world dance styles preferred.
