Job Summary and Scope of Responsibility:
Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School, and independent school in Lakeview, seeks qualified individuals to coach the following Middle School sports for the winter season (October 29, 2019 – February 15, 2020):
Girls Basket Ball Assistant Coaches
Boys Basketball Assistant Coaches
The time commitment includes weekday practices alternating between 7 a.m. – 8 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Games are scheduled M-T-W-TH beginning anytime between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. All Fridays and weekends off.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises.
Assesses player’s skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the other basketball coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
Determines game strategy.
Supervises athletes during practices and competition.
Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
Maintains the equipment room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security.
Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students.
Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Education:
· Bachelor Degree preferred.
Experience:
· CPR/AED certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively with middle-school students, parents and athletic director.
Middle-school coaching experience preferred.
Ability to promote and model sportsmanship, friendship and respect for others on the team and in the community.
Comprehensive knowledge of basketball with previous playing experience preferred.
Ability to develop cohesive relationships with the athletes and parents in the program.
Commitment to the emotional and physical safety of all participants.
Ability to work with the middle-school staff to foster a healthy school culture.
