St. George’s School seeks a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to serve as Director of Athletics.
The Director of Athletics will lead the St. George’s athletic program, overseeing 16 sports and 46 teams. The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for athletic program advancement, committed to maintaining our high expectations for sportsmanship and integrity. The Director will establish a clear and compelling vision for the continued development of competitive athletics and work with the Leadership Team to ensure the program contributes to the overall education of students. The Athletic Director will supervise an Associate Athletic Director, an Assistant Athletic Director, the athletic training staff, equipment manager, and the strength and conditioning program.
In collaboration with the Leadership Team, establish a vision for competitive athletics and a developmental path for student athletes, accounting for the level of competition in the Independent School League.
Ensure the department reflects the School’s and League’s mission and vision, emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship, and commitment.
Ensure opportunities in the athletic program for students with a range of abilities and backgrounds.
Work directly with the Director of Admission to attract competitive student athletes.
Develop and oversee athletic department budget.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate all coaches and members of the athletic office.
Regularly meet with varsity coaches and program directors regarding professional goals and program progress.
Oversee the use and maintenance of athletic facilities and equipment, and with other School leaders, ensure safe usage and conditions of all equipment, facilities, and fields.
Ensure athletic policies are up to date and the community is educated.
Collaborate with the Communications Department to continue to build visibility
Serve as the voice for SG athletics; oversee all information and communication both external and internal; establish and maintain high standards of communication, including schedules, games, and competition results
Serve as the school’s representative at all league and regional athletic meetings
Partner with the College Office, supporting recruited athletes and understanding the NCAA recruiting guidelines and policies.
Participate in the hiring of all faculty as an advocate for athletic programs.
Coordinate Athletic Awards Assemblies and maintain records.
Manage tournaments with staff, including schedules, opponents, officials, awards, and timers.
Serve on the Leadership Team and Student Life Committees; Lead the Athletic Council.
Coach one season.
Help supervise the campus in the evening and on weekends.
Support the school and its leadership.
Significant experience as a school leader and supervisor.
Demonstrated commitment to the school’s teacher-coach philosophy.
Significant athletic experience, including superior coaching skills and history of athletic excellence.
Deep commitment to diversity and to cultivating an inclusive and equitable school culture.
Demonstrated ability to interact and represent the school’s interests among various constituencies, including students, faculty, and parents.
