Long-term Substitute- February through Mid-March 2020
Sandy Spring Friends School seeks a dynamic, engaging, mathematics long-term substitute for students in grades 9-12. The position will include four sections of math courses. Subject to be taught are two sections of Pre-Calculus, one section of Advanced Pre-Calculus and one section of Algebra 2. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the position includes advising and other duties.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a closely related field; advanced degree preferred and curriculum development and instructional training a plus. Experience teaching a range of courses in a high school setting using a variety of teaching methods preferred. SSFS seeks teachers who value the importance of issues of diversity and can both share and teach differing points of view. Applicants should have a desire to work with students making the transition from adolescence to adulthood in a supportive, challenging, college-preparatory environment. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and written communications skills, and basic computer literacy for both administrative and instructional purposes. Knowledge of Quaker beliefs and practices is helpful, but not required.
Physical Requirements: The ability to navigate stairs as part of daily routines; mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; bending and squatting as required to participate in activities; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to maneuver as necessary within a regular classroom and office setting.
