Canterbury School seeks a full-time, dedicated Early Childhood Director to join our school community. The Early Childhood Director is a senior member of the Leadership Team and will guide and shape the learning environment for students aged 2-5. The Director will communicate and build strong relationships with families, guide and inspire a strong faculty, be energetic, employ humor, and exude professionalism.
Initially founded in 1977 by a group of seven families as a small K-6 school, Canterbury School has grown and matured into a highly regarded school now serving 866 students from Early Childhood (age 2) through Grade 12. Current enrollment in the Early Childhood is 147. The school is located on two adjacent and well-equipped campuses totaling seventy acres and located about ten minutes from downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana. With a growing population currently exceeding 250,000 people, Fort Wayne is Indiana’s second largest city and a vibrant, family-centered, and friendly community.

The ideal Early Childhood Director candidate:
Demonstrates deep competency in the social, emotional and academic development of 2-5 year olds

Has experience with the Reggio Emilia approach and other common Early Childhood pedagogical approaches

Has a clearly articulated philosophy of discipline that takes into account the developmental needs of children
Exhibits confidence in leadership, collaboration, and teamwork and high level of interpersonal skills
Exhibits strong skills in written and oral communication and demonstrates a high level of organization and prioritization skills
Develops and sustains close partnerships with families
Seeks ways to inspire and lead an already very strong faculty
Has a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education, or other closely related field, and experience in teaching and administration, preferably at an independent school
The Early Childhood Director reports directly to the Head of School. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintain the rich culture of Canterbury School
Participate in the senior leadership team to support Canterbury curriculum and programming from an Early Childhood through High School perspective
Oversee and execute tasks related to the supervision of all aspects of the Early Childhood curriculum, including classroom and Clubhouse programming
Supervise Early Childhood faculty and staff related to performance management, hiring processes and professional development plans
Build and maintain deep relationships with all constituencies
Create and actively manage the divisional budget
Support the goals of the Admissions, Marketing and Development offices
