Details Posted: November 21, 2019 Location: Mercer Island, Washington Show Map Type: Contract - Faculty Category: Foreign Languages Seeking a part or full time Interim Chinese Teacher Option to apply to continue for academic year of 2020-2021 Our teachers: Collaborate Communicate Foster relationships Take initiatives Innovate And most of all, enjoy teaching At best, the position will start as early as December 16, 2019, so as to include a week of training with the departing teacher. The official start date is January 6, 2020 or until filled. The end date will be June 16, 2020. The person in place for the interim position is encouraged to apply for the annual position opening for the 2020-21 academic year. FASPS provides teachers with all the necessary resources to support 21st Century teaching, including a laptop, schedule aligned to position, professional development and competitive salary. The teacher reports to the Head of School or the Division Head. The duties are: Teach all students Prepare classes, participate in curriculum development and harmonization with colleagues Supervise all students during teaching times Supervise students during recesses and lunches assigned Participate in meetings Participate in events Participate in student life All duties above are included in the teacher contract. A schedule of meetings is provided to teachers. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Mandarin Experience teaching Mandarin Chinese A desire to support and teach adolescents, and to support their discovery, development, language acquisition and cultural understanding A strong sense of class management and project organization Interest in teaching in a bilingual, multicultural environment An open mind, flexibility, cultural agility, a sense of humor and creativity Availability and ability to engage in teamwork Knowledge of pedagogical practices, including interdisciplinary learning and mixed age groups Interest in leading an advisory group (optional) Ability to do the duties assigned Desired Qualifications Teaching credential Specialization in second language acquisition (TCSOL or other) Multi-lingual Mandarin-French-English Excellent communication skills Ability to leverage technology in the classroom Desire to innovate Knowledge of positive discipline strategies (or desire to learn more) Prior experience in a bilingual or international school, or teaching abroad Our Mission: What We Do We challenge students to excel academically and thrive in French, American, and international cultures.
