Job Title: Pathway Manager Role summary: EF Academy offers an unrivalled level of personal support and guidance to students at our boarding schools and offices around the world. We prepare students for success by working with them to discover and develop their strengths and by providing them with an academic environment that will see them thrive. The Pathway Manager is a critical player in this support. Each Pathway Manager is responsible for a cohort of students and acts as a liaison between the student, family, home office, and school to advocate for and fully support their success in our school. Pathway Manager responsibilities includes, but are not limited to, the following: Academic Guidance - Provide individual student academic program planning for proper course placement and graduation eligibility including scheduling and credit checks
- Continuously monitor the academic progress of students, meeting with all students at minimum once every six weeks.
- Interpret cognitive, aptitude and achievement tests, including IEP’s and any learning differences Use cognitive, aptitude and achievement tests to assess students strengths and identify areas for growth
- Collect, interpret and maintain student records (i.e. transcripts) to ensure each student successfully meets all school and local graduation requirements
- Implement and manage academic interventions where necessary to ensure that students make the most of academic and extra-curricular opportunities and support services
- Help identify and support all students who are failing to reach their academic potential
- Advocate for students at individual academic progress meetings, school attendance meetings and disciplinary committee meetings
- Coordinate distance learning with students on medical (or disciplinary) leave
- Gather data/information from teachers as well as provide basic social and psychological assessments for students on an on-going basis and determine if/when a recommendation should be made to a family for further professional testing/assessments.
Pastoral Counselling - Develop strong relationships with students based on a mutual trust and respect
- Build an understanding of each student’s strengths, weaknesses, interests and areas for growth
- Provide individual and small-group support and mentoring to all students
- Facilitate conflict resolution and mediation including anti-bullying and teacher/student conflict, etc.
- Provide students with educational, emotional, personal, and social development support
- Maintain an interest in the life of each student through participation in co-curricular and school events.
- Counsel students who have attendance and/or disciplinary problems
- Play a key role in creating a school-wide culture which places the safety and wellbeing of its students at the forefront
- Promote the successful integration of students from diverse nationalities into a cohesive student body
Relationships - Build relationships with EF Academy colleagues around the world working in admissions offices to support country specific need for students and families
- Liaise with the University Advising team to ensure that curricular and extra-curricular choices reflect the students’ long-term goals and university interests
- Act as a liaison to faculty and staff to form an up-to-date picture of student development
- Work closely with the academic faculty to provide feedback and support for students
- Coordinate with the residential life team to ensure that all student needs are addressed and managed appropriately.
- Assist MAPS advisors to support a distributed guidance program
Communication - Act as primary point of contact for academic and other matters to the student, family, admissions office and school
- Update parents and admissions offices on the progress of students and communicating any concerns and helping to celebrate successes
- Manage student and parent aims so that they are realistic while pursuing the best possible results
- Maintain a proactive approach in the retention of students by ensuring they feel supported and best advised through collaboration with parents and EF Academy staff in school and offices
- Responding in a timely and professional manner (in line with school guidelines) to any parental or admissions requests
- Meet with current and potential families to inform them of the Pathway Manager’s involvement in their child’s lives and their academic, personal/social and emotional growth
- Report student progress as needed and communicate recommendations related to individual students’ intended goals to families
- Interview newly admitted students to welcome, evaluate and support their transition to our school
Duties - Monday-Friday, arrive on campus by 8:00am; depart after 4:45pm Mon-Thurs; on Friday depart after last duties are completed
- Participate in student induction week activities, including student placement testing and course selection
- Attend various school events throughout the academic year, including, but not limited to parents’ weekend, graduation, the school play(s), arts nights and sporting events, etc.
- Fulfil one weekend duty by either joining a residential life team for approximately 5 hours per duty or by chaperoning a full-day off-campus activity/excursion during a weekend (Friday afternoon, Saturday, Sunday)
- Work one evening a week to facilitate greater opportunities for student and pathway manager connections, approximate schedule 11:00am – 7:45pm
- Travel to admissions offices as needed to meet with parents, potential students and colleagues while supporting the promotion and growth of EF Academy New York
- Manage and file all required copies of reports, records and other documents (including disciplinary files).
