TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE LOCATION: The Windward School Westchester Middle School Campus White Plains, New York Our Mission: At The Windward School, we are committed to helping students with language-based learning disabilities achieve their full potential in preparation for a successful return to a mainstream educational environment. The Windward School is a coeducational, independent day school dedicated to providing a proven, research-based instructional program for children with language-based learning disabilities. The multisensory curriculum is designed for students of average to superior intelligence who can benefit from the unique educational experience provided. Located in White Plains, NY, and Manhattan, NY, The Windward School educates more than 900 students on three campuses. The Windward School seeks a Communications Associate to join our Communications and Marketing team. The Communications Associate plays a role in carrying out the communications initiatives of The Windward School and The Windward Institute. Working closely with and directly supporting the Director of Communications and Associate Director of Publications and Digital Communications, the Communications Associate works collaboratively across multiple departments and functions and with external vendors to execute and manage effective and brand-affirming communications projects that engage the school community and advance The Windward School mission. CONTENT CREATION & BRAND STEWARDSHIP - Steward Windward’s editorial and brand standards, ensuring the consistency and visual integrity of the school’s communications
- Coordinate content and production of weekly email to families
- Assist with developing communications assets (invitations, flyers, posters, email graphics, banners, animated graphics, etc.) to support communication efforts
- Manage production process for communication projects, coordinating with outside vendors (graphic designers, printers, signage companies, etc…) and acquiring cost estimates as required
- Maintain the school’s website calendar in conjunction with the calendar committee and utilizing an integrated content management system
- Attend events (during school days, evenings, and weekends) and provide written and visual recaps
- Contribute visual and written content for channels including, but not limited to, website, social media, news stories, The Compass community magazine, The Beacon, and other collateral materials
- Assist in the execution of Windward’s social media strategy on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn
- Coordinate content and production of annual family handbook
- Create, edit, and send emails to segmented audiences based on department requests; keep abreast of industry trends in digital communications

CUSTOMER SERVICE - Serve as client service liaison to internal teams, managing project timelines, ensuring timely project completion, and communicating status updates and clear expectations for project execution
- Serve as communications liaison to internal and external audiences requesting assistance; provide user training as well as assistance for logins and settings
ORGANIZATION - Organize, edit, and maintain Windward’s digital photo and video archives; ensure that supplies of printed collateral are organized and accessible
- Assist in managing editorial calendars (social media, website, etc.)
- Ensure accuracy of constituent (faculty/staff and family information) database online and distribution lists on website and email clients;
- Provide photo and video coverage for the school as needed and assist in coordination of professional photographers and videographers for on-campus and other special events
- Handle coding of communications office invoices and submission to the Business Office
MEASUREMENT AND ANALYSIS - Contribute to measuring the effectiveness of digital media efforts (website, email, social media) through metrics and analytics
OTHER Experiences and Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree required
- Degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, graphic design, film/video production, or related field preferred
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills*
- Experience with content management systems with a basic understanding of web programming and HTML
- Superior client service and interpersonal skills with proven follow-through ability
- Excellent project management, organization, and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
- High proficiency in graphic design, photography, and video capturing skills
- Ability to understand, capture, tell, and depict stories that convey the mission and tone of The Windward School
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and deadlines required; able to work quickly with a commitment to accuracy
- Must have a positive mindset and be flexible and adaptable
- Must possess a willingness to accept feedback and make changes
- High proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc…), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
