Indian Creek School is an independent coeducational day school, founded in 1973, offering a broad curriculum in the liberal arts. In 2019-2020 the school will enroll approximately 550 students in grades Pre-K through twelve from diverse ethnic, racial, religious, and economic backgrounds. This position is full time, beginning in January 2020 and would report to the Head of Upper School.
It is our mission to help students achieve their academic goals by encouraging responsibility, empowerment and self-advocacy and to partner with families to provide support for all students in the program with the goal of creating independent and self-aware learners. Academic Support classes are scheduled in place of a general study hall and occur just as frequently as every other academic course. The program offers enhanced academic services for an additional fee. The Academic Support Program emphasizes the development and/or improvement of general organizational skills, planning, prioritizing, task initiation, time management, and includes some assistance with academic content. Students have a scheduled Support class and one-on-one meetings with the Academic Support Instructor.
Support students with a variety of learning needs, specifically executive functioning weaknesses in grades 7 to 12 within our Academic Support Program
Work with the Head of the Upper School to ensure a high-quality education and the most engaging experience for students
Collaboratively plan and implement interdisciplinary units with other co-curricular teachers, classroom teachers, or grade level teams
Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
Maintain confidentiality with student information and records
Create a positive and safe classroom culture and community
Actively participate in a professional learning community, including professional literature, peer coaching, reflection meetings, planning meetings, data meetings, and staff meetings

Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers to develop interdisciplinary units
Ability to work as part of a team to develop curriculum and assessments
Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and with different learning styles
Proficiency in technology, including both iPads and Microsoft products
Preferred: Experience with reading, understanding and implementing educational reports and testing, IEP’s, 504 Plans, etc.
Preferred: Experience applying for College Board and ACT accommodations
Preferred: Master’s in Special Education
Federal and State Background Check clearance
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to collaborate and maintain a positive relationship with others, including the lead teacher
Reflective practitioner in a state of constant professional growth
School environment including indoor and outdoor activities
Read handwritten documents and other records or reports
Exchange information in person, by computer, or on the telephone (as needed)
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
Some light lifting, carrying, bending
Mobility to ensure supervision of students both in and outside of the building, including on playground equipment and on field trips
