Indian Creek School is an independent coeducational day school offering a broad curriculum in the liberal arts. Founded in 1973, Indian Creek School enrolls approximately 550 students in grades Pre-K through twelve from diverse ethnic, racial, religious, and economic backgrounds. This position is a full time, 10-month combination .5 administrative/.5 teaching position, reporting to the Head of the Lower School and the Director of Equity and Inclusion.
Responsibilities:
Serves as a vital member of the Equity and Inclusion team, a team of faculty and staff leaders who collaborate and support administrators, teachers, staff, students, and families, PreK through grade 12, in areas of equity and inclusion
Oversees efforts to foster a community of inclusivity and ensures that teachers at the lower school are educated about culturally responsive teaching practices
Provides leadership resulting from recommendations associated with the school’s 2019 Assessment of Inclusivity and Multiculturalism survey
Collaborates with school leaders to develop inclusive and multicultural curricular and co-curricular programming that reflect the School’s mission and commitment to diversity
Represents the School and network at Admissions Fairs and Open Houses
Provides leadership and serve as an educator, trainer and spokesperson for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Indian Creek School community and beyond
Creates a positive and safe classroom culture and community
Delivers the Lower School Spanish curriculum through classroom teaching
Works with the Head of the Lower School to ensure high quality education and the most engaging experience for students
Collaborates with the Lower School Team
Plans and implements standards-aligned units Lower School Spanish
Uses a variety of assessments, including student portfolios to measure student learning and drive instruction
Maintains positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
Maintains confidentiality with student information and records
Reports progress to families through reports cards, emails
Actively participates in a professional learning community, including reading and being familiar with relevant professional literature and research, participating in peer coaching, reflection meetings, planning meetings, data meetings, and staff meetings
Supervises students during lunch and recess
Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (Master’s preferred)
Demonstrated experience/expertise in elementary education
Demonstrated experience and expertise in teaching the Spanish language
Demonstrated experience and expertise in classroom management
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other faculty members
Proficiency in integrating educational technology into instruction
Proficiency in using technology including Microsoft products for basic tasks
Educational philosophy which aligns with the mission and vision of Indian Creek School
Preferred: Degree focusing in Elementary Education
Preferred: Three or more years of experience as a lead teacher with elementary students
Federal and State Background Check clearance
