The Blake School seeks to hire a dynamic Upper School Instrumental Music Director for the 2020-21 school year. The Instrumental Music Director coordinates instrumental music curriculum and instruction for 80-90 Upper School students, including large ensembles, jazz ensembles and chamber ensembles. The Director also conducts the spring musical and teaches non-performing courses in their own areas of expertise.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Plan and conduct the Upper School band and chamber orchestra in rehearsals, concerts and special events such as convocation and commencement
Plan and implement 3-day performance and service learning tour for combined band and orchestra
Plan and teach a non-performance course in music theory, composition, world music and/or technology
Coach the student led co-curricular jazz ensemble (Jazz Express) and the classical chamber ensemble (Ursa Major)
Rehearse and conduct the pit band for the Upper School spring musical
Maintain inventory of school-owned band and orchestra instruments
Maintain and develop the school’s band and orchestra library
Oversee judicious use of the band and orchestra budget
Schedule and supervise the work of paid section coaches
Collaborate with Middle School and Lower School instrumental instructors to develop curriculum and foster cross-divisional performances and divisional transitions
Lead an Upper School advisory, supervise a study hall and perform chaperoning duties as assigned
