Position Summary
The School Counselor is responsible for overseeing mental health services for NCS students. The counselor will act as case manager, staff coordinator, and family liaison for all students with mental health concerns. The counselor will also respond to acute mental health crises during regular office hours and be available for phone consultation during off-hours. This professional mental health position will be an integral part of a team that is responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating school health services that:

• Meet the emotional and physical needs of a diverse student and parent body
• Maximize the quantity and quality of school time by reducing the incidence of health problems which impair or prevent learning
• Achieves the highest degree of independent functioning possible

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling services
• Coordinate and support mental health clinicians who work with students
• Act as primary liaison between families and clinicians
• Work closely with the Director of School, School Nurses, Dean of Students, and Dean of Faculty to plan for and support a holistic approach to student care
• Provide/teach/facilitate Life Skills programming
• Oversee and manage the Advisory Program 

Additionally, the school counselor is responsible for:

• Identifying the health care needs of middle school students
• Planning and implementing services to meet those health care needs
• Assessing and evaluating the effectiveness of the services provided
• Maintaining accurate documentation of all ongoing aspects of care
• Collaborating effectively with school personnel
• Serving as a Health Resource for students, families, and employees
