Line of Authority: The Director of Equity and Inclusion reports to the Head of School

General Purpose and Function: 
Stuart Country Day School seeks a Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to begin August 1, 2020. The Director will be a member of the School’s senior administrative leadership team and will provide focused, strategic leadership to sustain and strengthen current diversity initiatives and to develop mindful, innovative school-wide practices and programs in the areas of equity and inclusion.
Founded in 1963, Stuart Country Day School is a close-knit community that benefits from a diverse community of approximately 400 students and 100 faculty and staff. Our community is distinguished by 51.2 % students of color and our commitment to the work of creating a welcoming, inclusive, and loving environment.

Responsibilities of the Position
Serve on the Leadership Team and Crisis Communications Team
In partnership with the Head of School, Leadership Team, and Associate Leadership Team, lead the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and programs that sustain and further develop a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community
In partnership with the Head of School, administrative team, and human resources department, assist in recruiting, hiring, mentoring and retaining faculty and professional staff, who reflect and support a diverse and inclusive school community. This includes attending hiring fairs and taking part in the hiring and orientation process for all members of the faculty and staff.
In partnership with the Head of School and the Leadership team, coordinate the representative leadership of Stuart’s Diversity Committee, the Board of Trustees Formation to Mission and Diversity Committee and Stuart’s Parent Affinity Groups.
Create and implement a mission-aligned vision for community experiences related to multiculturalism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Support and collaborate with academic leadership and Curriculum Committee to ensure that the school’s curriculum delivers culturally aware and anti-bias content and culturally responsive pedagogy.
Set standards for and oversee administrative, faculty and staff professional development efforts related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and multiculturalism. Including annual anti-racism programming for the entire community.
Partner with the Head of School, and Leadership team to develop policies and programs that deliver equity and foster inclusivity for all members of the community
Serve as a resource and leader for the community with matters of diversity, equity, inclusion, and multicultural practices and communication, including working with Stuart’s Seeking Educational Equity in Diversity (SEED) leaders and chairing the Stuart Diversity Committee.
Continue the development and support of affinity groups in the Upper School and spread to the Middle School and faculty.
Model encouragement for all members of the school community recognizing that each individual occupies a different location in their multicultural journey
Support the Admissions Office in recruitment efforts and practices to maintain a diverse and inclusive student body.
Develop a way for members of the community to share concerns about equity or racism and help ensure appropriate response by those responsible.
