Details Posted: October 14, 2020 Location: Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan Show Map Type: Full Time - Faculty Category: Other Required Education: 4 Year Degree Learning Specialist Long-Term Substitute Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Learning Specialist: Position Description: The learning specialist works with students, both directly and indirectly, to provide academic and emotional support; he or she is typically assigned a caseload and works with multiple students and teachers each day. Establishes positive relationships between students, teachers, parents, principals, and others in order to ensure a collaborative effort. Coordinate meetings with teachers, parents, division heads, and outside services to develop student support plans. Collaborate with students, teachers, and division heads to create strategic plans with measurable goals to promote academic success. Monitor student academic goals on a monthly basis through observations, formal and informal assessments. Communicate with parents on a monthly basis on student progress. Document student progress using data and observation at the conclusion of each trimester. Implement and assist teachers with student accommodations and interventions Helps students develop study skills, time management skills, and organization skills. Provide social skills interventions one-to-one or in a small group setting. Collaborate with parents to create an effective learning environment at home. Assists teachers with preparing students for testing and provide testing accommodations. Helps teachers in the identification of students who would benefit from intervention. Utilizes effective reading strategies to build students reading skills in the areas of phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Provide reading and math support through small group or one-to-one instruction. Push into classrooms to provide support to teachers and students, or provide differentiated instruction Successful candidates will have an advanced degree in education or related field and previous learning support teaching experience.
