The Collegiate School is seeking an experienced, full-time School Psychologist/Counselor to begin January 2021. The Psychological Services Department at Collegiate, in conjunction with other support and academic faculty and administration, strives to help provide a learning environment in which the students, and the Collegiate community as a whole, thrive emotionally and academically. The department works from a health-based model for the entire community with the belief that if the overall wellness of the community is increased, as well as addressing the needs of each student, all members of the community will more fully reach their potential. Essential Duties: - Collaborates closely with teachers and other mental health professionals to develop interventions and action plans that support students experiencing emotional, behavioral and academic difficulties;
- Provides consultation and guidance to parents, teachers, advisors, and administrators regarding psychosocial issues affecting students and general childhood, pre-adolescent and adolescent development;
- Fulfills advisory duties, fostering individual student growth and development;
- Interfaces with outside therapists regarding students under their care;
- Trains faculty and consults with teachers, deans and advisors regarding ways of understanding and supporting students in emotional distress;
- Works closely with the Director of Psychological Services and Head of Middle School to create a strong and healthy school environment;
- Assists in the development and provision of psychoeducational workshops and social-emotional curriculum development that addresses the needs of the school community;
- Develops and monitors behavioral and social-emotional goals for students receiving counseling;
- Provides crisis support for students as a member of a support team;
- Attends weekly meetings pertinent to the role;
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Master’s degree from an accredited university or college in counseling, psychology or social work and relevant licensure required. Doctoral degree preferred. Three to five years of experience working in a school or child/adolescent-based setting required, specific counseling experience working with middle-school aged children in an independent school setting preferred. Special Requirements: - Must be able to complete a background check and drug screen.
- Must possess a NYS license as a psychologist or LCSW.
