| St. Martin’s Episcopal School seeks an Upper and Middle School Learning Specialist to support students in a 5th-12th grade setting for the remaining 2020-2021 school year. The learning specialist is responsible for evaluating students who are demonstrating learning differences and/or academic difficulties with the classroom setting. In addition, the learning specialist is responsible for providing students with remedial academic services and recommending external resources available in the community when the needed services are beyond the scope provided by the school. Roles and Responsibilities *Work with Director of Curriculum, Division Heads, School Counselors, and School nurse to develop a program for Middle and Upper School students experiencing academic difficulty. *Coordinate and manage program for Middle and Upper School students. *Develop in-service workshops to educate faculty about learning styles, curriculum strategies, and the program for working with students. *Work with and through Division Heads to identify students in need of academic support. *Provide recommendations for additional evaluation conducted in-house and/or outside of St. Martin's. *Meet with individual students, faculty, parents, and administrators to interpret diagnostic testing results and develop an individual educational plan for students. *Work closely with teachers, parents, administrators, counselors, and outside support personnel to monitor established individual educational plan for each student. *Participate in grade group meetings. *Provide some individual one-on-one academic support of small group support to students. *Attend pertinent workshops and keep abreast of the latest research, data, and information about learning and teaching styles and approaches. *Participates in continuing professional development through in-service training, school visits, conventions, etc. *Be a support for the individual student as he/she learns to develop compensatory skills for his/her particular learning style. *Meet with classroom teachers to discuss individual student progress, evaluate needs, make recommendations for the classroom, and provide assistance in making any accommodations needed. *Work with Lower School learning specialists. *Provide periodic assessment of overall program effectiveness and offer recommendations for improvement. *The faculty member addresses any and all safety concerns when responsible for students and/or an event/activity. Qualifications The position requires an individual with at least 5 years teaching experience, an advanced degree in learning or related field and specialist certification. Abilities: *Ability to interact with faculty, parents, and students on a daily basis, including visitation of classrooms for observation, monitoring of halls, and participation in dining and recreational areas. *Ability to monitor student progress by reading grade reports on a frequent basis. *Ability to communicate in superior English in oral and written format regarding curriculum, student progress, behavior, etc. *Ability to observe teacher performance in the classroom and in informal settings. *Ability to participate in field trips and other activities. *Ability to keep current on educational literature and curriculum trends. *Ability to give oral presentations, conduct meetings, and preside at assemblies.
