POSITION DESCRIPTION AIS is seeking two coordinators, one for Primary (Grades 3k-5) and one for Secondary (Grades 6-12), of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion who deeply believe in preparing students to become global leaders that will create a more equitable world. The coordinators will work to advance the school’s commitment to intentional inclusion and anti-racism and to ensure every student is seen, heard, treated fairly, and protected across their multiple identities. As Coordinator, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion you will lead the Primary or Secondary school community in realizing a vision for DEI that becomes an everyday part of the respective school. This position is a member of the Primary School or Secondary School Leadership Teams. These positions meet weekly with the Head of School, attend the Educational Council and Senior Leadership Team as needed, and will collaborate closely with the Director, People and Culture, Director, Alumni Affairs and Primary or Secondary School Admissions Manager. The ideal candidate is someone who is deeply aligned with the values and principles of Atlanta International School; has a love for the development of young people, possess a passion for equity, is a skilled facilitator of adult learning, and can build deep relationships to support people through change. START DATE: January 2021 REPORTS TO: Head of Equity and Inclusion What You Will Do Staff Learning and Development - Co-chair the school’s Change Champions group with other DEI coordinator
- Design and facilitate a long-term structured learning and development curriculum for faculty and staff, including whole-group, small-group, and 1:1 to strengthen intercultural and anti-racist mindsets and instructional or work techniques in creating a more inclusive culture for students
- Support the scheduled and ongoing IB curriculum review process to increase and integrate racially diverse voices, perspectives, and content while supporting the process of reshaping pedagogies across and within subject areas to align with a culturally responsive and anti-racist approach to teaching and learning
- Facilitate faculty and staff attendance at local, regional, and national conferences related to equity, inclusion, and social justice education
Student Learning and Development - Collaborate with principals, counselors, and faculty to develop student leadership around diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice through development and support of on-campus education programming for students, affinity groups, and mentoring programs.
- Facilitate student attendance at local, regional, and national conferences related to equity, inclusion, and social justice education.
Community Support - Design and facilitate community dialogues around topics of equity and inclusion
- Work with the Board Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Parent Organization leadership in realizing AIS’s vision for equity and inclusion
Organizational Change and Communication - In collaboration with other DEI coordinator monitor and provide frequent reports/updates on long-term strategic plan and 90-day DEI action plans
- Assess the school’s climate and culture and collaborate with leadership team faculty, and staff to implement solutions that address disparities in experience
- Create, support implementation of, and monitor key organizational systems and policies that increase inclusion and address any disparity in student experience
- Represent AIS's vision at local, regional, and national conferences related to equity and social justice education.
What We Are Looking For Required: - A passion and deep alignment with AIS’s mission, diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice
- Bachelor’s Degree
- A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience, specifically teaching and/or adult learning facilitation is essential
- Experience leading diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in a school, NGO or university setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including high levels of responsiveness to students, families, staff, and faculty
- A high degree of intercultural competence and a proven ability to communicate effectively across lines of cultural difference
Preferred: - Instructional background at a level 3K - 12, specifically in a school setting
- An advanced degree and/ or evidence of a commitment to continued post graduate professional learning and growth
Remuneration The package will be competitive and commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
