The Elisabeth Morrow School The Elisabeth Morrow School, an independent twos - through-eighth grade school in Englewood, NJ, is seeking a part-time Early Childhood Assistant Teacher. The position is part-time, Monday through Friday, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Occasional attendance at school-related functions that take place outside of regular work hours may be expected. Early Childhood Assistant Teacher - Job Description The Early Childhood Assistant Teacher will contribute to a developmentally appropriate, caring and supportive early childhood program serving members of The Elisabeth Morrow School community. In our Early Childhood program, we recognize that all children will not develop at the same pace. We respect each child’s rate of growth, and activities will be individualized to ensure student engagement and achievement. The transition to a school environment is guided by strong collaboration between families and the school which includes frequent communication and parent education. This position reports to the Director of Early Childhood and Kindergarten Programs. Job description: - Support Head Teachers in planning, executing and assessing developmentally appropriate activities and experiences in harmony with the school’s philosophy and mission
- Individualize approaches to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of each child
- Skillfully balance restorative learning time and active learning time
- Encourage positive behaviors to promote self-awareness and healthy social interactions
- Ensure that the learning environment is conducive to productivity, and is safe and healthy
- Ensure positive communication with family members
- Establish teacher / child relationships and expectations that are nurturing, understanding and developmentally appropriate
- Contribute to the ongoing operations of the school by carrying out additional responsibilities as assigned
- Utilize behavior management strategies that are reasonable, sensitive and differentiated
- Encourage self-regulation and empowerment through modeling and choices
- Work effectively in a collaborative learning community
- Promote the school within the larger community
The successful candidate will have the following credentials: - One to three years working with young children
- A college degree, or credit towards, a college degree, preferably in Education or a related field
- Ability to move efficiently from floor-seated to standing position
- Stamina, patience and enthusiasm!
