This position requires a registered professional school nurse, who will work in collaboration with the lead school nurse to oversee school health policies and programs. The school nurses will work together to provide expertise and oversight for school health services and promotion of health education serving all three divisions; lower, middle and upper school. Using clinical knowledge and judgment, the school nurse provides healthcare to students and staff, while also serving as the liaison between school personnel, family and healthcare providers. This position is expected to be 20 – 30 hours per week and will expire at the end of the school year, May 2021. Provides care to Students: - Provides emergency care in the event of an illness or injury;
- Provide health assessment of students;
- Develops individual student health and emergency care plans for students with special health needs;
- Provides care to students with chronic illnesses (diabetes, asthma, allergies);
- Initiates referrals and follow-up for students with health problems;
- Collaborates with parents, teachers, staff, and healthcare providers to promote and secure student health services complying with legal requirements;
- Supervises the administration of prescribed treatments from healthcare providers;
- Appropriately utilizes student electronic health record system.
- Assists in daily COVID-19 screeningsand partakes in the care and management of students per the relevant St. David’s COVID-19 protocols .
Provides Support to Parents: - Maintains communication with parents for the purpose of advising them of changes in student health or recommending further medical intervention;
- Maintains student’s confidential health files as required by legal and professional standards.
- Serves as a liaison between parents and St. David’s leadership team regarding COVID-19 protocols and questions.
Provides Support to St. David’s School: - Administers screenings (hearing) in coordination with other school personnel and the lead nurse;
- Collaborates with the lead nurse and the leadership team to develop and implement school health policies;
- Coordinates with the lead nurse for communicable disease control and prevention;
- Provides training on a variety of health-related subjects (CPR, disaster preparedness, food allergies, OSHA, etc) to students and staff;
- Serves as a member of the Crisis Team/First Responder Team;
- Obtain and maintain certification as a CPR Instructor for the purpose of certifying staff and students in CPR and AED use;
- Report health and safety issues to appropriate Division Principal and/or Administrator;
- Remains current with CDC and NCDHHS guidelines for COVID-19 safety in schools.
- Works in collaboration with St. David’s leadership to provide case management for COVID-19 outbreaks and exposures within the St. David’s community.
