Job Title: Learning Specialist

Position Summary:

The Learning Specialists will work with students, parents, and teachers, particularly in the areas of reading/language arts and mathematics to further student learning.  The Learning Specialist works closely with teachers, guidance, and academic support  to offer students learning strategies, organization, and study skills to advance in their academic program.  The Learning Specialist also works with both teachers and families to review assessment data and adjust instruction accordingly. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Act as a resource to the middle school faculty for students struggling academically by facilitating communication with parents, coordinating a specific plan of support and working with students individually and monitoring progress.
• Attend grade level specific meetings in order to gain insight into students’ achievements so proactive initiatives can be taken before a student begins to struggle.
• Review all psychoeducational evaluations in a manner compliant with current best practices and identify appropriate accommodations.  
• Provide one-on-one instruction and teach small-group academic support classes to help students develop organizational skills, time management and study skills.
• Serve as a resource for parents when their student is struggling and provide information on available learning support and assessment accommodations.
• Develop and maintain communication and documentation protocols related to learning support.
• Partner with administration and the counseling office to facilitate extended time testing or other accommodations. 
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising administrator.
