Sayre School seeks a dedicated professional interested in leading its Food Service Department. The Director of Food Service reports to The Director of Finance and Operations and is responsible for the successful procurement and production for lunch service for 650 + students, faculty, and staff. All foods prepared must be nutritious and appealing, with sufficient options to address all religious and dietary requirements. Responsibilities and Duties - Manage all food service functions for a PK-12th grade educational community
- Produce healthy, appetizing foods for lunch service
- Produce a la carte breakfast/break options
- Plan and develop menus and recipes that address a range of dietary and religious requirements
- Comply with all department budgets, as determined by the Director of Finance and Operations
- Ensure that all storage, production, and serving areas of the kitchen are clean and operate according to the standards required by the Lexington-Fayette County Board of Health
- Manage occasional catering work and concession needs which occur after school hours and on weekends
- Train and supervise the department’s staff to ensure that all of the above obligations are carried out and that each staff member is successful in their particular job
Qualifications - 10 years of experience in food service, with at least 8 years of experience in both the production of catering and the management of a culinary team
- Excellent cooking skills and an ability to successfully supervise a commercial kitchen staff and maintain the facility in a clean, orderly, and professional manner
- A dedication for excellence in his/her work, and a flexibility to adapt to sudden changes in the routine
- An ability to work well with a culinary staff, as well as professionally interact with teachers, students, other department staff members, and parents
- A high school diploma or the equivalent is required, and an associate degree in culinary arts is preferred
- The physical ability to maintain an 8-10 hour work shift, as well as lift 20 lbs
A current certificate of the completion of the food safety management training conducted by the Lexington/Fayette County Health Department as well as documentation of receiving the Hepatitis A vaccine is a hiring requirement.
