Westtown School is seeking qualified substitute teachers for our Lower School. Westtown School is an independent, co-educational, pre-K to 12, college preparatory day and boarding school located in suburban West Chester, PA, approximately 30 miles from Philadelphia. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 1-3 years of classroom teaching experience at the elementary school level, an understanding of the cognitive and social-emotional development of children at this age, as well as a strong knowledge of instruction and assessment practices in Mathematics and English Language Arts. Ideal candidates will be versed in interdisciplinary curriculum, project work, and anti-bias curriculum. A Bachelor’s degree is required. In addition, the candidate should demonstrate: - Joy working with elementary aged students;
- Relevant classroom teaching experience required, preferably in an independent school setting;
- Knowledge of educational technology to support teaching and learning both in the classroom and remotely;
- Knowledge and commitment around diversity, equity, inclusion, and access practices and the impact it has on the classroom climate and curriculum;
- A desire to continue seeking professional development;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues inside and outside of the curriculum;
- Curriculum design and assessment experience;
- A strong character with a team-oriented spirit, and the ability to connect meaningfully with students throughout our diverse community;
- A deep commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices;
- Strong affinity for the mission of Westtown School and an educational philosophy consistent with the school’s Quaker values.
