Open Window School - Instructional Assistant Float Start Date: Immediately Open Window is a K-8 school and the only independent school on Seattle’s Eastside dedicated to meeting the needs of intellectually gifted students. This is a rare opportunity for a talented, innovative, energetic, experienced individual to join a community that is at once, challenging, stimulating, and nurturing. The Instructional Assistant Float (IA Float) will be responsible for supervising recess, snack and lunch times as well as helping to run our daily drop off and pick up. This position will also provide classroom coverage during the day as needed. Each grade has been split into 4 cohorts of 9-11 students and the IA Float will assist with these cohorts. Responsibilities might also include some clerical work including contact tracing work and maintaining an accurate list of authorized pickups for each student. This job requires energy, empathy, lots of flexibility, initiative, the ability to collaborate and a commitment to teamwork. You are eager to help wherever you are needed! Successful candidates must be able to navigate K-4 classrooms (smaller student chairs/tables, etc.), actively work outside in various kinds of weather, maintain regular attendance, be punctual, and dependable. The school is not easily accessible by public transportation, so please plan accordingly. Hours: We are looking for candidates with availability Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, however weekly hours will vary based on what Mode of Program our school is in. Hours in Hybrid Program Mode (HPM): 20-40 hours per week. When in HPM, instruction will be delivered at school on some days, and remotely on others. The schedule was carefully created to provide a safe program while taking students’ age and stage of development into consideration. Hours in Distance Program Mode (DPM): Approximately 10 hours per week. When in DPM, instruction will be delivered remotely. This position may be needed to assist with socially distant student events on campus, such as Recess or Hangouts. *This position is a Temporary commitment, predicted to end June 2021, depending on need. Primary duties include, but are not limited to: - Being a part of our daily student arrival and dismissal team – welcoming families to school, taking temperatures as students exit their car, checking wellness forms are completed and making sure their departure from campus each day is a smooth one.
- Providing breaks to teachers in your assigned grades – possible examples include supervising the class during a specialist class or bathroom breaks
- Supervising the playground; implementing and administering recess rules
- Supervising snack and lunchtimes
- Providing timely feedback to lead teachers concerning observed social, emotional, and behavioral progress in students
- Assisting with administrative responsibilities such as photocopying, monitoring authorized pick-ups, helping with potential contact tracing, etc.
- Taking initiative with the tasks that keep our processes running smoothly
- Attending required in-service days, meetings, and training sessions
- Attending and participating in school events
- Maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
Compensation & Benefits: This is a non-exempt, temporary position, eligible for overtime, with an hourly pay rate of $20.00 per hour, for actual hours worked. Work schedule may vary depending on Program Mode or scheduled on-campus student instruction or activities. This position is not eligible for benefits under the school’s Life, AD&D, LTD, or HRA/FSA or 403b retirement plan. Eligibility for Medical and Dental benefits is dependent upon the average number of hours worked during the 90 days following the month of hire. Benefits do include sick leave and paid holidays, in accordance with the school calendar. - Experience working with elementary school students, preferably in a classroom setting
- An interest in the social-emotional development of children
