| Part-time, (mid-Feb through mid-June) .50 FTE, (.40 Acting & Stagecraft) (.10 Tech Director) The Upper School (grades 9-12) seeks candidates for a long-term substitute position in our Upper School Arts Department for approximately 14 weeks. The Arts Department offers rich opportunities for both general exploration and advanced learning in a wide variety of arts disciplines. Course curricula are designed to stimulate creativity, facilitate mastery of skills and techniques, expand communication and collaborative skills, and build confidence and community. The ideal candidate will support the Arts Department’s mission statement. In acting they will be expected to teach topics such as script analysis, monologues, movement and vocal work, acting for the camera, improvisation, and theatre history. In Stagecraft they will teach topics such as drafting, lighting, sound, set, prop, costume design and construction. We seek an individual who is dynamic, professional, and comfortably implements student-centered, inquiry-based learning strategies in the classroom. Depending on the candidate’s interests and the needs of the School, the position may include additional opportunities such as Community Service Coordinator or managing our Performing Arts Center. This position requires teaching face-to-face on campus daily unless future pandemic conditions require that remote teaching/learning is necessary.
Ideal candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in Theater, Theater Production or closely related field and a master’s degree is desirable. Candidates will have, at a minimum, two years of full-time high school teaching experience. The ability to teach all areas of Theater including Acting and Stagecraft is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a desire to work with Upper School students in a supportive college-preparatory environment. Candidates should possess basic computer literacy for both administrative and instructional purposes, strong interpersonal, and written communications skills. Knowledge of Quaker history and education is desirable, but not required.
