‘Iolani School, a K-12 independent day school in Honolulu, has an excellent opportunity for an experienced individual to provide leadership to our Kindergarten through 6th Grade programs. ‘Iolani seeks a confident, energetic leader who will enthusiastically embrace our 150 years of tradition, help lead an intellectual and thoughtful faculty, joyfully interact with students, and support an involved parent body. The ideal candidate will be a leader and educator with elementary school experience, curricular expertise, and administrative experience, who is excited by the opportunity to help lead our lower school. Ideally the successful candidate will have a minimum of three to five years of administrative or leadership experience, preferably in an independent school environment, along with the following: -A proven commitment to young children -Successful teaching and leadership experience in grades K through 6 -Strong knowledge of curriculum development and instruction -Strong interest and knowledge of technology in the classroom -A collaborative and consensus-based management style, with good instincts -Excellent oral and written communication skills -A demonstrated ability to work effectively with parents and faculty
The Associate Dean of Lower School’s main responsibilities include: -Leadership: Support the Dean of Lower School in the implementation of divisional goals and initiatives; assist in the general administration of the school, serve as a member on the Lower School administrative team; and act on behalf of the Dean of Lower School in his absence -Operations: Oversee all operations for the division including before and after school procedures, morning and afternoon recesses, scheduling, and lunch procedures -Testing and Data: Oversee standardized testing and division-wide assessments including but not limited to ERB, ADAM, and Fountas and Pinnell assessments; and create a system of tracking student data -Student Discipline: Manage daily student discipline issues; consistently evaluate and amend discipline policy; and determine appropriate consequences for discipline matters -Social Emotional Curriculum: Manage the development of a K-6 social emotional curriculum that works to serve our students and act as a proactive measure to build community and reduce discipline matters -Outreach: Participate where needed for matters of admission and advancement; attend school functions and events as a representative of the division and school; communicate effectively and professionally with parents and other school constituents
Requirements: -A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate educational field is required; a master’s degree or higher is preferred. -At least 3-5 years of administrative experience, independent school leadership experience preferred. -At least 5 years of teaching experience preferably in the elementary years. -A demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative management context. -A passion for independent education as well as the professionalism, energy, and commitment, necessary to achieve the responsibilities of this position. -Excellent interpersonal skills. -The ability to communicate clearly in written and oral forms with a diversity of constituents.
