2020-2021 Teacher Role Position Type This is a temporary, exempt position. Position Term and Equivalency: On-campus work has anticipated beginning and ending dates. Curriculum design and program development are ongoing throughout the year. Reports to: Department Chair Direct Reports: This position does not have direct reports. Position Description: First and foremost teachers at Field are expected to uphold the mission of the school-- self-discovery, skills of mind, generosity of heart, -in their day-to-day interactions with students, in the design and implementation of curriculum and in their professional interaction with colleagues. The Field school's mission is ambitious and bold, and our teachers are required to embody that mission. A flexible and innovative mindset is required. As curriculum designers, Field teachers are expected to adapt to their students' learning interests and needs. Strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate are also important, as Field teachers regularly work with other teachers, grade heads and department chairs to ensure that all of our students are being supported and challenged in accordance with our mission. In order to serve all students as outlined above, teachers must be actively anti-racist in their approach to both their curriculum and to their interpersonal interactions with all community members. At the core, all teachers are expected to be committed learners. While Field is an independent school we are not independent of each other. Faculty are members of the larger Field community and expected to shepard the values of the school. Due to the anticipated uncertainty of the 2020-21 school year, the following are points of clarity for expectations of teachers at The Field School: - Course Load: Teaching assignments and course load will be determined based on needs
of the students, student enrollment numbers, daily schedule constraints, and teacher qualifications. Teachers may be asked to teach in different departments, and/or at different age levels if deemed qualified. 2. Instructional Setting: Teaching and learning will occur in distributed settings. Teachers will be expected to be ready to teach in distributed settings. Students will also be in distributed settings. 3. Health Regulations: Health regulations may require changes to typical teaching practices. This is included but not limited to: teaching while wearing a mask (or other protective equipment, unless contraindicated), and teaching while observing physical distancing guidelines. 4. Athletics: Athletics remain a core part of the Field School experience despite the uncertainty that surrounds interscholastic athletics in the 2020-2021 school year. Physical education will remain part of the curriculum at Field. Teachers are expected to staff that program as part of their regular load. As interscholastic programming becomes clearer, teachers will be expected to staff team sports as needed. Athletic coaching assignments will be communicated at the earliest possible date. Assignments may change throughout the school year. 5. Extracurricular Responsibilities: - Active participation in programs including, but not limited to, Winter Internship,
clubs, activities, honors, advising, and supervision roles. b. Assignments may change throughout the school year as needed. 6. Work Environment: In the 2020-2021 school year, teachers may be asked to perform their work duties at home and/or on campus. In both settings, the teacher is required to maintain a professional environment. While on campus, classes may be operating either in person or in a distributed setting. Teachers are expected to be present and accessible for the entire school day, regardless of the setting. |
