Position Description Heathwood Hall Episcopal School is seeking an organized, diligent, affable, and skilled professional to join our college counseling office. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position that requires daily interaction with other office personnel and regular contact with students, parents, faculty, and administrators. It also involves contact with personnel from other schools and academic institutions. The Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling will report to the Director of College Counseling and Upper School Head and will be responsible for administering all aspects of the college search and admissions process, including the following: - Educating students and parents about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing; advising and supporting roughly 30 seniors and their families each year as they go through the application process; and helping students and families aspire realistically and choose wisely. The Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling also administers the on-line resource Cialfo that gives an additional tool for students and families to investigate, research, track, and plan for the college admission process.
- Assisting with various programs sponsored by the College Counseling office, including new programming focused on grades 9 and 10.
- Developing and expanding upon long-term relationships with colleges and universities, including meeting with college admissions representatives who visit campus.
- Working with the Registrar and Academic Dean to maintain records on seniors, including GPAs and transcripts.
- Educating him or herself on issues and trends in college admission, higher education, testing, as well as keeping up-to-date about specific colleges and participating in local and national professional organizations, such as SACAC, NACAC, and ACCIS.
- Maintaining and disseminating information about standardized tests and helping to administer the AP, ACT, SAT, and PSAT exams.
- Planning and leading a small group of students on a weeklong college visit trip each spring.
In addition, the college counselor may be asked to assist with loading information on our web-based college counselling software (Cialfo), meeting with college reps, preparing transcripts, and other such duties. |
