The Town School Nursery-Kindergarten and Lower School Psychologist Start Date: August 30, 2021
The Town School is a coeducational Nursery through 8th Grade school of 400 students on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The Town School seeks a full-time Nursery-Kindergarten and Lower School Psychologist to work with students, faculty and parents in Nursery 3s through Fourth Grades and in partnership with the Upper School Psychologist. Responsibilities: - Provide support for individual students and groups in the Nursery-Kindergarten division and Lower School as needed.
- Consult with the Nursery-Kindergarten Head and Head of Lower School, members of the Nursery-Kindergarten and Lower School Guidance Teams, and faculty to develop appropriate support for students with learning challenges or other prevailing issues impacting cognitive, behavioral, or emotional functioning
- Consult and collaborate with mental health clinicians, occupational therapists, and educational consultants to align support in and out of school
- Along with Nursery-Kindergarten and Lower School Learning Specialist, determine when interventions are necessary and providing appropriate recommendation
- Along with Nursery-Kindergarten and Lower School Learning Specialist, review psychological testing reports and provide summary report to Guidance team and faculty; and consult with parents and in order to provide comprehensive academic and emotional support
- Provide parent education evenings along with the Head of Lower School and grade-level faculty
- Attend weekly grade-level Guidance meetings and monthly N-K and bi-weekly LS Specialists’ Guidance meetings
- Attend divisional and all-school meetings
- Participate in divisional and school-wide committee work
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities
- Attend to other duties as assigned
Qualifications: - Master’s degree in child psychology, counseling, or related field required
- Sustained experience working with 3-10 year-old children and their families
- Supportive of Town’s mission and philosophy
- Demonstrate a commitment to equity and supportive of Town’s Statement on Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity; demonstration of personal growth and accomplishment in this area preferred
- Personal characteristics of an outstanding professional: warmth, tact, discernment, superb communication and organization skills, high energy, and a good sense of humor
