The Grade Dean works closely with the Head of the Upper School and the Upper School Dean of Students to oversee student life and to support the well-being of their cohort of students over the grade’s four years in the Upper School. The Grade Dean works with grade advisors and faculty to help students meet the curricular and extra-curricular expectations of the Upper School. The Grade Dean communicates directly with parents of students at their grade level about grade level programs, and is attuned to the developmental needs of the grade, serving as the liaison with all appropriate stakeholders to meet those needs. Please note that this role is a part time administrative position that will be combined with teaching or other responsibilities to be defined based on the applicant’s area of expertise and school needs. 

The Dean’s responsibilities include the following: 

• Develop and run grade-level programming to create opportunities for the grade to develop class cohesion and identity
• Be available to students, advisers, teachers, and parents as a resource for problem solving
• Foster advisor team cohesion and collaboration including the planning of advisor team meetings
• Work with the grade team to plan annual class trips, students and family events.
• Act as the first point of contact in student discipline for non-major offenses and work with the faculty adviser of the Student-Faculty Judiciary Committee in order to create a fair and effective process for addressing student discipline issues.
• Meet once per cycle with Student Support Group (psychologist, counselor, school nurse, learning specialist, fellow class deans, and the Head of Upper School) to report on students of concern and seek support in designing and implementing action plans.
• Oversee course registration cycles to monitor that each student meets graduation requirements, identify schedule conflicts and work with students and Registrar to correct
• Assist in implementing administrative, extra-curricular, co-curricular, and academic programs as required
• Maintain positive and direct contact with the parent body, establishing open lines of communication and developing strong, supportive relationships
