Park Tudor is currently seeking an experienced, dynamic Orchestra Director for the 2021-2022 school year. There is a long-standing tradition at Park Tudor that encourages a healthy balance between academics, arts and athletics. The Orchestra Director is an integral position in the Fine Arts Department in supporting Park Tudor’s vision of igniting curiosity, instilling compassion, inspiring courage in students while providing opportunities to dive deeply in an area of passion. In collaboration with the Director of Fine Arts, the Orchestra Director is responsible for leading, directing and providing artistic vision for the strings curriculum and orchestral performances across all divisions of the school. The Orchestra Director also collaborates closely with all fine and performing arts faculty members, the Director of Fine Arts and other school leadership to ensure strong, cooperative relationships and high artistic standards. Principle Roles & Responsibilities - Instruct beginning strings in 5th grade; the 6th, 7th-8th and 9th-12th grade Orchestras; and Young Strings levels as needed
- Instruct and oversee chamber music groups after-school.
- Collaborative leadership and artistic vision for the Music Department; define programing, curriculum development, and interdisciplinary collaborations to ensure students are engaged in a relevant, challenging, thought provoking learning environment with age appropriate experiences.
- Conduct and manage all aspects of the String and Orchestra Concerts to include artistic direction, budgeting, production meetings, organizing, scheduling and managing rehearsals; student supervision; communicating and liaising with all parties involved, including student musicians, parents, production team and school at large.
- Collaborate with Young Strings faculty to support aspects of management to include curriculum, repertoire, rehearsal schedule and budgetary oversight in collaboration with Director of Fine Arts.
- Work in collaboration with the Band Director, Choral Director and Technical Theatre Director for technical support and stage management of select concerts and share management responsibilities of Auditorium facilities.
- Coordinate guest musicians, field trips, events and other exceptional opportunities related to strings and orchestra.
- Direct and supervise all school orchestra performances, including concerts, orchestra, soloists, and small ensembles.
- Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within department.
Additional Responsibilities - Lead and manage Chamber groups for the Upper and Middle School.
- Seek opportunities to integrate and coordinate interdisciplinary opportunities where appropriate.
- Meet regularly with department-specific faculty to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of the curriculum; attend Fine Arts Department and appropriate Divisional meetings.
- Meet with Director of Fine Arts and Administrative Directors as appropriate to promote a broad discussion of curriculum at the divisional level.
- Co-manage instrumental music budget, including the Young Strings, considering both short and long-term financial needs.
- Work with Admissions, Counseling, Communications and Development as needed.
- Coordinate with technology department and media services on technology, books, a/v equipment, etc. to support curriculum and teaching.
