POSITION PROFILE

POSITION TITLE:  Middle School Humanities & History Teacher (Jan.-June 2021)

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt/ 10 month

REPORTS TO: Associate Head of School

QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS 

• Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the Marymount mission
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in history or education  
• State of California Teaching Certificate in secondary education of authorization for history
• Three years prior teaching experience at the middle school level, remote teaching experience preferable
• Willingness to work in an on campus in-person environment and in a remote setting  
• Flexibility in working across grade levels
• Demonstrated knowledge of subject area and a strong background in curriculum and instruction, classroom management, and assessment
• Experience with integrating curriculum across disciplines
• Conversant in 21st century education practices 
• Proficiency in Zoom, Google Suite and Google Apps for Education
• Experience teaching with commonly available educational software
• Experience with a variety of technology in the classroom such as computers (Mac), digital projectors, document cameras, Interactive Whiteboards, and iPads
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
• Strong public speaking skills
• Ability to interact with students, parents, faculty and staff
• Flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across the divisions on faculty committees
• Strong ability to work collegially with the Division faculty and support team

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Design instruction that emphasizes critical thinking and problem solving through discovery and evaluation while making content relevant to students’ lives today
• Create hands-on project based learning experiences that incorporate technology and independent research
• Collaborate with colleagues to integrate curriculum across disciplines  
• Work collaboratively with Curriculum Coordinators, instructional faculty, and Associate Head of School to develop interdisciplinary and cross curricular projects
• Perform duties associated with being a middle school advisor
• Supervise recess, lunch, drop-off, pick-up and assemblies when necessary
• Participate in the “life of the school” through service projects, assemblies, community garden, admissions events, mission related professional development and advancement events.
• Seek and take part in professional development to enhance professional knowledge and educational training.
• Actively participate in weekly faculty development meetings
