Details Posted: January 4, 2021 Location: Brooklyn, New York Show Map Type: Full Time - Faculty Category: Other Preferred Education: 4 Year Degree Middle School Humanities is an integrated English and History course designed to build essential language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) and a global historical perspective. The English curriculum complements the History curriculum, with studies of several ancient literary genres and contemporary texts, as well as units on expository and creative writing and foundational work in grammar and vocabulary development. This position is anticipated to consist of teaching and advising one section of 5th graders and other duties as determined by the schedule and programming needs of the division. Humanities teachers collaborate and plan with other grade level peers along with the chairs of the History and English departments. Advisory responsibilities include overseeing students' progress in all classes, being the primary contact with parents, and other responsibilities such as participating in overnight trips, teaching our anti-bias curriculum, and leading service learning activities. All Middle School teachers are expected to be active community members, sharing supervisory duties and general support and care of the school community. Experience teaching with and knowledge of pre-adolescent students is required. Comfort with and desire to utilize interactive, creative and inspirational technology in the classroom is desired.
