School Overview San Francisco Girls’ School is a new independent school for girls with a STEM-focused and interdisciplinary curriculum. Our mission is to create the leaders and innovators of tomorrow and help close the gender gap in STEM and leadership. Located in the heart of San Francisco, we will use the resources of our city to enhance the curriculum and provide unique opportunities for our students. We anticipate about 30 students in our inaugural 9th grade class and expect that faculty and students alike will have a role in shaping the future of the school. Tenets: Cultivate Belonging - Pursue Integrity - Rise to Challenge Position Overview We seek an Upper School teacher whose primary focus is Science, with an emphasis on Biology. Our Science sequence is Biology, Chemistry, then Physics. As a STEM-focused school, we expect to offer advanced courses across the sciences such as Environmental Chemistry or Bioengineering Applications. Because our curriculum is interdisciplinary, we are also looking for teachers with skills and interests in other areas. All SFGirls teachers are expected to participate in the life of the school as advisors, club mentors, or by facilitating co-curriculars. All faculty and staff are expected to uphold the core tenets of the school and support students in doing so as well. Responsibilities - Teach 9 classes over the course of a three-term academic year
- Serve as an advisor
- Create the initial curriculum for 9th grade biology courses and build subsequent curriculum including potential electives
- Design and implement culturally responsive, equitable, and motivational instruction, incorporating student-engaged assessment
- Collaborate with other stakeholders to create interdisciplinary curriculum in support of the mission and vision of SFGirls
- Incorporate technology into teaching practice in significant and meaningful ways
- Use research-based teaching practices in the classroom
- Communicate with students and families via timely, accurate, and actionable feedback
- Work collaboratively with students, parents, and specialists to support learning for each student
- Engage in on-going professional development
- Support the co-curricular life of the school via participation, facilitation, and/or supervision
- Embody and support the mission of the school
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
