Long-term Sub (potential to become permanent), Full-time through June, Salaried, Benefit Eligible The Upper School (grades 9-12) seeks candidates for a full-time, long-term sub position in our History Department. This position will initially be a long-term substitute appointment with the potential of becoming full-time permanent. The Upper School’s History Department guides students to a deeper understanding of the present through critical investigation of the past, while creating reflective global citizens. We seek an individual who is dynamic, professional, and comfortably implements student-centered, inquiry-based learning strategies in the classroom. The ideal candidate will support the Department’s mission statement and be able to differentiate instruction for a variety of diverse learning needs including English Language Learners and students with accommodations. Note: This position will require the flexibility to teach remotely and/or in-person as SSFS continues to determine the most effective teaching/learning model in the midst of the COVID pandemic. The current expectation is to resume face-to-face instruction beginning January 26th. Responsibilities include planning, teaching, and assessments for four sections of History. Courses include two sections of Ancient World History and two sections of US History. Candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in History or a closely related field, and ELL training/certification is desirable. Candidates will have, at a minimum, two years of full-time high school teaching experience. The ideal candidate will be willing to teach both online and in-person in a safe environment. In addition, they will have a desire to work with Upper School students in a supportive college-preparatory environment. Candidates should possess basic computer literacy for both administrative and instructional purposes, strong interpersonal, and written communication skills. Knowledge of Quaker history and education is desirable, but not required. Physical Requirements: Daily desk work including significant amounts of computer screen time; mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; bending and squatting as required to participate in activities; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to maneuver as necessary within a regular classroom and office setting.
