Who we are? Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co-ed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 1,700 students on two campuses -- one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and the other in Manhattan. Ethical Culture School, located on the Upper West Side at 63rd Street and Central Park West, is comprised of approximately 450 students Pre-K through 5th Grade and 80 faculty members. We are seeking a dynamic and creative lower school music teacher to teach music to children in PK-3rd grade. The successful candidate will teach remotely and stream into classrooms with in-person students. This is a leave replacement position that begins February 2021 and will end June 2021. The candidate will teach engaging and interactive activities that take into account the covid safety protocol of masked and distanced students. This includes an emphasis on rhythm, movement, storytelling, and music appreciation. To provide continuity for the students, we are also looking for a music educator to continue programs that have already been established including: -using solfege and scale degrees to teach melodies and songs on thumb pianos to third graders -teaching the second semester Musical Explorers Program to the second graders https://www.carnegiehall.org/Education/Educators/Musical-Explorers/New-York-City -exploring African traditions in American Roots music to 1st graders The successful candidate will also need to document lesson planning and student progress in addition to collaborating with a talented faculty.
