To provide professional nursing services to and for the students, and when necessary, employees. The school nurse works in tandem with educators to ensure the well-being, and academic success of students. Keeping children healthy, safe, in school, and ready to learn should be a top priority for the school nurse. To provide care and expertise during the COVID-19 pandemic. To provide medical support and professional flexibility to the changing conditions that have been precipitated by the pandemic. This position will be, at minimum, until the end of June, 2021. At that point, the school will evaluate the on-going needs for the upcoming school year, 2021-2022. Essential functions, duties and responsibilities: - Consistently acts in accordance with the nursing guidelines and practices of Virginia and supports the school’s mission and values
- Development of policies, programs, and procedures for the provision of school health services
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students
- Work collaboratively with the other school nurse
- Provide direct health care to students and when necessary, employees
- Provide leadership for the provision of health services
- Promote a healthy school environment
- Liaison between school personnel, family, community, and health care providers
- Provide channels of communication throughout the school community for health-related topics
- Maintenance of all student health-related records, including the Magnus database
- Manage AED inventory and annual inspections
- Manage school health records in accordance with all federal, state, and county regulations
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children and their families
- Comply with OSHA regulations to independent schools
- Strategic health information partner for the senior leadership team
- Oversees the administration of medication to students
- Oversees infection control measures
- Identification of developments in health practices
- Schedule, organize, and follow-through on all medical training for employees
- Adhere to licensing and legal guidelines
- Upholds professional standards of personal presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion
- Work a daily schedule that begins no later than 7:45am
- COVID-19 Era
- Must be willing to administer medical aid to children who might have COVID-19
- Must be able and willing to take temperatures (for both students and employees) during the course of a school day
- Must be able to adhere to the chain of communication to report potential cases within the school community
- Must be able to administrate the tracking measures that are agreed upon by the school
- Must be able to oversee the mitigation of infection (i.e., face coverings, social distancing)
- Must be able to help in the delivery of on-campus COVID testing, In collaboration with the senior leadership team and the health and safety task force
