The Communications Specialist is a year-round staff position on a three-person team. The Communications Specialist plays a pivotal role in conveying the school’s mission and programs, as well as critical operational and logistical information, to alumni, families, donors, faculty, staff, students, and the public. The position reports to the Director of Communications. Responsibilities - Operational and Editorial Writing: Conceptualize and produce engaging and informative stories, photos, video, and other communications that meet the school’s strategic communications goals and are consistent with Packer’s positioning. Write and edit stories about school events, classes, and curriculum, as well as profiles of community members. Write and edit letters, announcements, promotional copy, and other content for Development, Admissions, and other departments and programs.
- Project Management: Create and carry out production schedules for major print and digital projects, including The Packer Magazine. Serve as primary liaison to external vendors and freelancers. Process P.O.s and invoices.
- Primary Liaison to Development Office: Coordinate and lead the Communications Office’s bi-weekly meetings with the Development Office. Develop and carry out production schedules for all print and digital projects for the Development Office, overseeing all stages of execution and proofreading for quality, clarity, and accuracy. Manage alumni editorial content and projects, serving as creative partner to the Alumni Director.
- Website Management: Oversee the regular updating and maintenance of the Packer website (Finalsite Composer). Manage and upload website content and information. Maintain and provide user support for Parent, Faculty/Staff, and Student Portals and Packer email (Finalsite and Veracross). Provide website support to other departments.
- Email Communications: Manage communications schedule for division, administrative, and Development emails. Write, edit, produce, and send emails and newsletters. Support other departments and programs in creating and sending email newsletters.
- Photography and Videography: Identify and document compelling events, classes, and the Packer environment. Edit and produce finished products. Develop concepts and scripts for freelance photographers and videographers, as needed.
- Digital Asset Management: Edit and maintain a growing database of photo and video assets.
- Emergency Communications: Serve on Incident Command Team. Support Director of Communications with emergency communications as needed.
