New England Innovation Academy seeks an inspiring middle and high school Social-Emotional Coordinator, who will create and sustain the vision, direction and implementation of mental health and counseling services at NEIA. Successful candidates will have a strong clinical background including proven experience providing comprehensive mental health services and psychoeducational outreach to students with a diverse range of identities in a school setting. Reporting to the Dean of Community Life, the Social-Emotional Coordinator will serve as a thought partner and collaborator to the Learning Support Coordinator in the creation of the NEIA Wellness Center, the execution of the formal wellbeing curriculum, and other initiatives, and to the Dean of Faculty and faculty advisors concerning student mental health, and other social-emotional support matters. The Social-Emotional Coordinator serves as a member of the faculty. Faculty at NEIA encourage collaborative teamwork in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully, justify their reasoning, and consider multiple perspectives when solving problems. Faculty invest in the life of the school by participating in the advisory program, social and emotional learning, weekly department meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings, anti-bias training, residential life when we include boarding students, and any and all aspects that support the student experience. Faculty are responsible for creating and maintaining a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential and accomplish the learning goals of NEIA. Duties include: - Embodying NEIA’s principles of empathy, equity, personalization, authentic work, and collaboration in all work activities and actions;
- Working closely with the Student Life team to:
- Provide individual mental health counseling; educate community on proactive wellness strategies;
- Address bullying/harassment;
- Provide education (prevention and awareness via classes/presentation on topics such as anger/stress management, cyber safety, etc.);
- Develop youth leadership and empowerment skills;
- Facilitate restorative justice and conflict resolution;
- Provide crisis assistance (i.e. family death);
- Provide truancy intervention;
- Provide mental health resources;
- Liaise with community resources; next steps involving short term and/or long term counseling or intervention; advocacy;
- Provide small group mental health counseling (i.e. anger/stress management, gender/sexual diversity issues, self-esteem, grief, relationships, etc.);
- Address risky behaviors (i.e. alcohol, drug use, smoking, among others);
- Address depression and anxiety;
- Address abuse (i.e. physical, emotional, sexual);
- Maintain and track documentation of mental health support for students;
- Provide some academic counseling duties and other duties specific to student needs, if needed;
- Attend Student Life Team meetings as scheduled;
- Contribute to the life of the school and in building a strong community.
