Stone Ridge is seeking a Middle School Social Studies Teacher to begin work in August, 2021. Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. With over 700 students, and rooted in the Goals of Sacred Heart education, Stone Ridge inspires young women to lead and serve, through lives of purpose that integrate faith, intellect, community, social action, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom. The Middle School Social Studies Teacher is responsible for teaching social studies, with a focus on geography and ancient civilizations, in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education. Working closely with department colleagues and throughout the Middle School, s/he creates and updates plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum. S/he actively collaborates with Learning Strategists, Educational Technologists, and with the Middle School Counselor to develop strategies to support all students. S/he attends all faculty and employee meetings, serves as a student Advisor, fulfills other faculty duties, and maintains good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents’ inquiries. The ideal candidate possesses teaching experience in the field of social studies or history and demonstrates expertise in pedagogy and instruction; s/he is familiar with/has experience teaching in the model of Understanding by Design as the School’s chosen model for learning. Likewise, s/he possesses a capacity for working with a range of learning abilities, and experience integrating appropriate educational technologies into her/his teaching. S/he demonstrates a collaborative spirit, organization skills, and creativity. S/he demonstrates an authentic understanding of the mission and the School’s Catholic identity.
