| The High School High Scholar [HS]2 program at Colorado Rocky Mountain School (CRMS) is a three-summer scholarship program that prepares students for college, with an emphasis on courses in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and college counseling. During five weeks each summer, [HS]2 scholars live and learn on the CRMS campus in Carbondale, Colorado. On weekdays, students attend six hours of academic classes. In the afternoons, they participate in the Active Program, which includes rock climbing, kayaking, and team sports, as well as art classes such as silversmithing, fused glass, and music. On weekends, the natural environment surrounding campus inspires exploration. This unique combination of challenging academics and outdoor activities contributes to the intellectual, social, and emotional growth of each [HS]2 scholar, while the boarding experience fosters independence and responsibility. The 2021 [HS]2 program runs June 21 to July 24, with faculty and RA/TAs arriving on campus Wednesday, June 16, and departing between July 24-26. Resident/Teaching Assistants are the backbone of the [HS]2 program because they interact with students on every level and in every setting. [HS]2 hires Assistants for Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Writing. Assistants live in a dormitory room with another assistant (sharing bathroom facilities with students). Successful Assistants have a strong academic background, are enthusiastic leaders, have a high level of stamina, are compassionate, genuinely enjoy working with high school students, and are interested in mentoring first-generation college-bound students. Program Duration - Summer session lasts five weeks, beginning typically on a Monday and ending on a Saturday. This duty begins four days prior to session start.
Duties - Assist assigned teacher in the classroom M-F, up to three hours per day. Two Assistants will support afternoon sports in lieu of classroom support
- Foster diversity, inclusion, and social justice, ensuring all students’ sense of belonging
- Supervise a dormitory two or three days per week (M-F), for 5.5 hours in the evening and for one hour in the morning. Evening times include supporting students in study hall.
- Supervise a dormitory for three weekend shifts, from Friday evening to Sunday evening
- Proctor academic restriction/study hall on four Fridays in the evening, and five Sundays in the daytime
- Chaperone students during off-campus activities, including an all-day trip to the Front Range on College Visit Day
- Transport students in a 14-passenger vehicle, including driving one-way on College Visit Day and possibly driving one-way to the Denver airport on student arrival and departure days
- Participate in an afternoon of Team Building with students at the beginning of the session
- Attend a welcome dinner at the beginning of the session
