Pinewood Preparatory School (Summerville, SC) seeks a new High School Math Teacher starting in August 2021. The Opportunity: The High School Math Teacher will teach College Prep and Honors high school math courses ranging from Precalculus and Statistics to Algebra I, Algebra II, Algebra III/Trigonometry, and Geometry. The candidate for this position will be expected to design and maintain a classroom environment favorable to students’ academic and personal growth and to establish effective rapport with students while maintaining proper classroom management. Responsibilities & Duties: - Teach high school math courses ranging from Algebra I, Algebra II, Algebra III/Trigonometry, Geometry, Precalculus and Statistics, incorporating various instructional and assessment techniques.
- Provide math help after school per department guidelines.
- Diversify curriculum and differentiate instructional strategies for various academic levels.
- Create a classroom environment that actively engages students and is developmentally appropriate for the age, maturity, and interests of the students.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior per school guidelines.
- Serve as a homeroom advisor within the school’s advisement program.
- Serve as advisor and chaperone for Pinewood’s high school math team. Coordinate for the math team to participate in annual SCISA math team competitions, with the expectation of participating in additional competitions beginning in 2022.
- Perform other related duties as directed by the Head of School, Head of High School, Head of Middle School, and Head of the Math Department.
Core Qualifications and Credentials: - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in High School Math Education, or closely related field.
- Experience teaching in an independent school environment is preferable, but not required.
