Brooks School seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic and creative English teacher for the 2020-2021 academic year. A full-time teaching position includes teaching four sections, coaching two sports/activities, residential, and community responsibilities. The successful candidate will: - Be proficient in the teaching of writing, both in a classroom setting and in one on one settings with students.
- Be skilled in teaching contemporary forms of communication such as different genres and mediums of writing, video creation, podcasts and audio recording, oral and visual presentation.
- Help students manage the reception and creation of multiple streams of information both digital and non digital, including the proper use of these resources.
- Teach textual analysis and close reading, with "text" being defined in a contemporary sense: any and all forms of writing, video and film, audio, or presentation, to name a few.
- Teach critical thinking skills and original idea generation.
- Be committed to the idea of diversity in the classroom, such as the creation of a diverse and varied reading list, and the acknowledgment and acceptance of our students' diversity of culture, gender, sexuality, as well as their educational, economic, and geographic backgrounds.
- Be able to incorporate the concept of creativity into the teaching of essential skills.
- Staff the Brooks Writing Center a designated number of times per week to work one on one with students seeking help on written assignments.
Responsibilities: - Teaching four sections of English which may include advanced English classes
- Advising 4-6 students (beginning year 2)
- Serve as dorm parent with related duties
- Coach or the equivalent of two seasons in the afternoon program
