Sierra Canyon is seeking a full-time Studio Arts Teacher for the 2021 - 2022 school year. Candidates should have 3 - 6 years of art teaching experience (mixed media, studio art, architecture, drawing/painting, and 3-D art) at the 7^th – 12^th grade level at an independent school. A bachelor's or graduate degree in Visual Art is required.

Candidates should have knowledge of a variety of media and be able to teach introductory to AP levels. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience teaching architecture and AP Art History. Sierra Canyon has a strong architectural program, and our students are admitted to the best architectural programs in the country.   

As there will be a vacancy in the department chair position, Sierra Canyon administration is actively searching for a candidate with leadership experience as a chair of an arts department. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

• Teach five courses, introductory to AP levels, middle school to high school. 
• Demonstrate mastery of related subject matter, instructional skills, and resource materials for courses taught.? 
• Lead the arts department as chair which includes presiding over regular department meetings, collaborating with administration on chair duties (e.g., curriculum development, hiring, observation and evaluation of faculty, new course proposals, et al).
• Create lesson plans, aligned with current trends that drive instruction through formative assessment and differentiation.? 
• Maintain a safe, organized, and positive classroom that supports students’ independent learning, collaboration, and choice while fostering mutual respect.
• Give students appropriate feedback on a regular basis and in a timely manner.
• Exhibit a commitment to continuous professional growth and work with administrators to develop and follow through on development and a commitment to learning.? 
• Serve as an advisor to a group of 10 – 12 students, providing guidance in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal areas.
• Possess experience with Adobe Suite and Sketchup.
• Attend all faculty, department, and other meetings as required. 
• Complete grades/comments, advisor letters, and other forms of academic communication in a timely, professional manner.
