Please visit our website, www.prospectsierra.org, for more information. Overview of Position This position is for an elementary music teacher, beginning August 2021. This teacher will report to the Elementary Division Head and will work in close collaboration with the elementary drama teacher. This is a full time teaching position. This staff will need to be prepared to teach both on campus and remotely, depending on county and state directives. Responsibilities of job - Teach kindergarten through 4th grade music classes in a developmentally appropriate, engaging way
- Develop and strengthen performance skills in the recorder, singing, and playing percussion, Orff instruments, as well as other instruments
- Support a curriculum that focuses on a balanced approach to singing, instrumental music playing, and creative movement
- Create meaningful relationships and an inclusive classroom environment with students
- Support the social and emotional development of students by collaborating and communicating regularly with classroom teachers in order to support individual student needs
- Evaluate all students on progress reports at end of each semester
- Lead some form of elementary before or after school instrumental/orchestra enrichment class
- Lead the elementary chorus lunch club
- Communicate effectively with parents
- Lead a student ‘family’ group
- Work collaboratively with the Arts department TK-8 to ensure a smooth transition from the elementary to middle school music program, including the coordination of all school music nights
- Work collaboratively with the Diversity committee and the drama teacher to support a TK-4th grade project based learning Winter Performance that integrates visibility work with stage and music production
- Support the elementary division head to integrate singing and music appreciation into the weekly community meeting
- Participate in other school-wide activities throughout the year, such as committees, department and staff meetings, and occasional evening or weekend school events
