The successful candidate will: - Enjoy working within a vibrant and collaborative music department and work together with students, colleagues, the administrative team, parents/community, and work independently
- Have knowledge of WSMA repertoire recommendations for festivals and concert selections, and familiarity with Wisconsin State Music Standards
- Have experience teaching music theory and music history courses
- Be comfortable directing students with varying levels of interest and experience playing in an orchestra
- Have experience creating, organizing, and managing performance events throughout the school year
- Incorporate repertoire from differing cultural environments to promote diversity, equity and inclusion
- Connect well and feel at ease with both middle and high school students
- Have the ability to design and facilitate rigorous, empowering lesson plans that are student-centered and thought-provoking
- Have intellectual curiosity and a desire to spark a love of learning in students
- Be dedicated to meeting the needs of diverse student learners and must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse students, teachers, families, and communities
- Have excellent communication skills, a genuine appreciation of adolescents, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well within a collaborative environment
- Have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
MCDS middle and high school faculty expectations: - Teach a standard class load of a minimum of four sections
- Serve as either a middle or high school advisor
- Offer one elective each semester
- Participate in one extracurricular each school year
- Weekly duty assignments
