Description and Goals The K-5 Literacy Coach will participate in developing, analyzing, and evaluating the school’s literacy program. The Coach will provide student-centered coaching services and professional development that support the implementation of the literacy program with the ultimate goal of unlocking the teacher’s potential to maximize their performance and improve student learning with a focus on innovative pedagogical methods. The Coach will work directly with teachers providing classroom-based demonstrations, collaborative and one-on-one support. The Coach will also work with teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret, and use it to guide instructional decisions. Responsibilities: Provide individualized, classroom-based support and modeling to implement literacy programs with differentiated instruction, plan and deliver lessons, and unpack the B.E.S.T Standards. 1. Work in tandem with the Director of Innovative Teaching and Learning to ensure Language Arts lessons include innovative pedagogical practices in K-5 classrooms. Model lessons if the need arises. 2. Guide teachers to create and administer diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments, collect and analyze data to develop action plans according to students’ needs. 3. Oversee the school’s standardized assessment procedures, training, data collection, and collaborate with the Intervionist and Assistant Head of School to complete reports. Inform and discuss methods and results with parents when needed. 4. Collaborate with the administration in annual initiatives such as creating a standards-based report card, curriculum planning, FCIS accreditation, etc. 5. Collaborate with Special Area Teachers and follow through with the Writing Across the Curriculum program. 6. Organize the annual Read Across America celebration in February. 7. Organize and present school-wide professional development and organize PLC Teams to share ideas and enhance teaching practices. 8. Collaborate with the Admissions Director to inform prospective parents about our literacy curriculum. 9. Advocate on behalf of teachers, students, families, and the community. 10. Attend professional development to stay informed of the latest research with regards to literacy education. Join professional organizations such as ILA and NCTE. Maintain a professional presence on social media and publish occasional articles related to literacy. |
