The Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is a new position at St. Clement’s commencing in August 2021. The Director of EDI reports to the Vice Principal and works closely with the Administration Team to provide strategic leadership in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion. This position will include up to two sections of teaching or equivalent. With a school-wide approach, the Director of EDI coordinates and strengthens internal connections among grades and departments to develop and align diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-oppression policies, programs and curriculum throughout the School. The incumbent possesses strong organizational and leadership skills, and demonstrates sensitivity and care in working with staff, students, alum and our broader school community. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Collaborate with the Administration Team, provide strategic leadership to deepen and advance equity, diversity and inclusion work for the School.
- Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures and programs that sustain a diverse, equitable and inclusive school community.
- As a member of the Curriculum Leadership Team, work with curriculum leaders and faculty across the Grade 1-12 continuum to develop and promote inclusive and anti-racist curriculum and pedagogy.
- In collaboration with our EDI Consultant, organize and chair the SCS EDI Committee meetings and ongoing Committee work.
- Contribute to the development and facilitation of professional learning related to EDI and recommend and implement professional development opportunities for staff.
- Work collaboratively on the implementation and development of initiatives and programs to enhance the experiences of students who are historically underrepresented and/or marginalized.
- Work with the Academic Administrative Team, LINCWell Department, faculty and staff to bring diverse thought communities together for constructive conversations and ongoing discourse.
- Provide leadership to faculty and staff in the development and delivery of EDI co-curricular programming for Grades 1-12.
- Empower students to engage and contribute to a community in which everyone feels known and valued.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of LINCWell and the Leadership Program Coordinator to integrate wellbeing, EDI and leadership development.
- Oversee the development of affinity and interest groups for students, parents, faculty, and staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES OF OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE - Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent.
- A minimum of five years experience working in a school or related educational organization, with experience as a classroom teacher a strong asset.
- Deep knowledge of best practices in equity and inclusion work and demonstrated student-facing experience in leading such work.
- An empathic and relational leadership style and a track record of being a community-builder across different constituencies with the ability to facilitate critical conversations to support staff and student growth and to realize institutional change.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to work and plan in close collaboration with all constituents including colleagues, students, parents and alum.
- A strong interest in research and data-informed decision-making.
- A record of encouraging, nurturing, and supporting students’ love of learning.
- Commitment to co-curricular activities, coaching, and participation in school life.
- Criminal record check is required as a condition of employment.
