Details Posted: February 4, 2021 Location: Potomac, Maryland Show Map Type: Full Time - Faculty Category: Director of Studies/Curriculum Required Education: 4 Year Degree McLean School (mcleanschool.org), a K-12 co-educational independent school in Potomac, Maryland, seeks applicants for an Upper School Academic Coach and Assistant Coordinator of Learning Services to begin August 2021. McLean School has for over sixty-five years been helping bright students realize their full potential by providing a comprehensive college preparatory program that emphasizes small classes and differentiated instruction. Through our Abilities Model®, we embrace both traditional learners and ones with mild to moderate learning challenges. We recognize and teach to individual strengths, responding to areas of challenge, but never defining students by them. Academic coaching responsibilities include: one-on-one assistance for students in executive functioning, study skills, writing, reading comprehension, and math, particularly algebra. This role requires coordination with parents and teachers. Akin to functioning as a learning specialist, assistant coordinator of learning services responsibilities include: coordinating information for psycho-educational testing, tracking academic accommodations, organizing and proctoring semester exams, meeting with prospective students when needed, and communicating with students and parents regarding standardized testing accommodations. The position requires a dynamic and patient educator with an appreciation for students with mild to moderate learning challenges, and ADHD, and a desire to build self-confidence in our students as they learn to advocate and to prepare for success in college and beyond. Most important, this individual will subscribe to our Core Values, our Mission, and our Philosophy, and will seek to uphold and promote them. Interested applicants should send a cover letter, résumé, and statement of educational philosophy to Karen Hundal, Coordinator of Learning Services, at khundal@mcleanschool.org.
